The stuff in this directory originated in the hybrid docs tree, but is still largely relevant. The manpage ircd.8 is decidedly outdated. RFC 1459 is definitive about what "IRC" is, but dancer (like many ircds) is only 'reasonably' compliant - a huge number of extensions and a few blatant incompatibilities have been added. The objective with dancer is not to be rfc1459 compliant, but to work with the majority of modern IRC clients. It is highly likely that dancer will diverge more from the RFC over time, as the goals of openprojects do not mesh very well with traditional IRC. The Tao of IRC is still present because I fear for my karma were I to remove it. I make no comment on the content of this document. The canonical documentation for dancer is written in DocBook SGML and is found in the sgml subtree. -- asuffield
